Classic Beats Weekend Zurich

Classic Beats Weekend Zurich - an interactive musical weekend of classical meets jazz meets electronic meets education.

Starting with Ynight Dance! 28th.02.2013 from 9pm CET, live from Club Blok Zurich:

VILDE FRANG is among the most successful young violinist of her generation. The Norwegian won the prestigious Credit Suisse Young Artists Award 2012 and is known for her fiery playing without compromise. Clarinetist DAVID ORLOWSKY twice won the ECHO-classical prize for his genre-bending fusions of classical music and Klezmer and pianist JULIEN QUENTIN has, like his good friend Francesco Tristano, embarked on a journey into the world of electronic and keyboard music. In his spare time, he tours as the pianist of David Garrett.

Ynight’s own Etienne Abelin (member Lucerne Festival Orchestra, dir. Claudio Abbado) and Andreas Fleck (Casal String Quartet) join the trio to form the Yband Zurich of the night.

In the second set of the evening, the space opens to the haunting soundscapes of the Icelandic producer, pianist and composer VALGEIR SIGURDSSON. Known as producer and frequent collaborator with Björk, he founded the indie classical label “Bedroom Community” together with Nico Muhly and Ben Frost. NPR (National Public Radio) in the USA recently selected him as one of the “Top 100 composers under 40”.

Together with violist Liam Byrne, Valgeir presents music of his latest album “The Architecture of Loss”. And the occasional jam between the various musicians of the night is entirely possible.

As usual the Ynight takes place comfortably in the BLOK club, hosted by the Ynight team’s Nadja Schnetzler and Daniel Frei.

With: Valgeir Sigurðsson (Piano, Electronics), Liam Byrne (Viola) plus the Yband Zürich: Vilde Frang (Violin), David Orlowsky (Clarinet), Julien Quentin (Piano), Etienne Abelin (Violin) and Andreas Fleck (Cello). Plus DJ Nik! (Hula Honeys), animations by Stephen Malinowski and  live Visuals.
